KOKORINOV Alexander Filippovich (1726-1772, St. Petersburg), architect and engineer. He was one of the first masters of Russian Classicism. He studied in Tobolsk and Moscow. Kokorinov lived in St. Petersburg from 1754; in 1761 he was appointed the director of the Academy of Arts, assigned as its professor since 1765 and its president since 1769. The project plan of Demidov House in Grivtsova Lane (1755-1759) is attributed to Kokorinov, as well as the project plan of Count Shuvalov's house at 12 Sadovaya Street (1760s, only the wings of the house have survived). Kokorinov erected the buildings of the Academy of Arts (from 1764) and Razumovsky's Palace on 48 Moika River Embankment together with J.B. Vallin de la Mothe. The majority of Kokorinov's works have not survived to the present day, like the buildings on 16 Palace Embankment, 47 Mokhovaya Street, and the manor of Grand Princess Ekaterina Alexeevna on Bronnaya Hill etc. The portrait of Kokorinov painted by D.G. Levitsky is reposited in the State Russian Museum. Kokorinov was buried at Sampsonievskoe Cemetery (the grave was not preserved).
