VVEDENSKAYA STREET, from Bolshoy Avenue of Petrogradskaya Side to Kronverksky Avenue. The street was known as Second Vvedenskaya Street in the 1730s-90s; from 1923 to 1944 it was called Rozy Luxemburg Street, after the activist of German socialist-democratic movement, to be renamed as Olega Koshevogo Street in 1944, in honour of a member of the Youth Guards (Molodaya Gvardiya) underground organisation. The street bore this name until 1991, to resume its current name. The street was laid in the 1730s across the settlement of Belozersky Infantry Regiment. The corner of Vvedenskaya Street and Bolshaya Pushkarskaya Street accommodated the Presentation of the Holy Virgin Church (the name is derived from the Russian name of the Church, (Vvedenskaya); the church was destroyed in 1932). In 1849, house No. 2 was built (architect A.P. Gemilian), house No. 4 was constructed in 1879 (architect L.F. Sperer), as were house No. 17 and house No. 19 in 1902 and 1903 (both were designed by technician P.M. Mulkhanov). House No. 5 in 1910 (architect M.K. Dubinsky), house No. 7 in 1914 (architect V.N. Smirnov) and house No. 15 in the 1930s (architect N.F. Khomutetsky). Among the residents of Vvedenskaya Street were: artist B.M. Kustodiev (house No. 7, 1915-27), I.P. Pavlov (house No. 4, 1889-1918), Bulgarian revolutionary D. Blagoev (house No. 12, 1885; a monument to him was opened in 1969, sculptor G.D. Yastrebenetsky, architect L.L. Schreter).
