ST. PETERSBURG FLAG, one of the official symbols of St. Petersburg. Instituted in 1990 according to a decree by the Leningrad Soviet, then put onto the State Heraldic Register of the Russian Federation (under № 64), and confirmed by the Charter of St. Petersburg (1996). The Flag is based on the St. Petersburg coat of arms. The rectangular red cloth of the flag (with a height length ratio equal to 2:3) features a vertical yellow sceptre over two crossed white anchors with their flukes upwards (the one with the flukes turned to the flag pole is a sea anchor, and the one with the flukes turned away is a river anchor).
