SCIENCE (1 Mendeleevskaya Line), a publishing company, and a department of the Academic Publishing Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The publishing house dates back to the Publishing House of the Academy of Sciences established in Petrograd in 1923 on the basis of Academic Printing House. The first director of the publishing house was a Fellow of the Academy A.E. Fesman. In 1934 the publishing house was transferred to Moscow, at the same time its Leningrad Department was established. From 1964 Science publishing house has issued works of St. Petersburg Scientific Institutions in all fields of knowledge, academic editions of various writers' collected works, monographs, dictionaries, school-books and reference books. Its best-known series include Classical Scholars, Literary Memorials, Literary Heritage, The Library of the Old Russian Literature, Historical Library, Say of the Existing. The publishing house consists of four book editorial offices and twenty-two editorial offices for academic periodicals. Science issues over 100 titles of books and 192 issues of journals per year; in St. Petersburg, the production of the publishing house is sold in the stores of Akademkniga (Academic Books) All-Russian Trading House (57 Liteyny Avenue; 2 Tamozhenny Lane; 4 Tikhoretsky Avenue; 16 Ninth Line of Vasilievsky Island).
