Situated in Novaya Derevnya, between the Sestroretskaya Railway Line, Torphyanaya Road and Bogatyrsky Avenue. Its area covers about 60 hectares. In was set up in 1905; the wooden Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov was constructed in 1906-07 (architect N.N. Nikonov; hence the name). In 1941, the Seraphimovskoe Cemetery served mainly for burials of residents of adjacent areas. During the Siege of Leningrad, it was the second largest site for mass burials of Leningraders (after the Piskaryevskoe Memorial Cemetery; over 100,000 people were buried here, according to another source some 200,000-300,000 people). In 1957-65, a memorial sculpture set was constructed in commemoration of the 21st Anniversary of the Lifting the Siege, and was ceremonially opened on the site of 16 common graves (architect Y.I. Lukin, sculptor R.K. Taurit); a four-story granite portico with 5 monumental sculptures depicting the city defenders was placed in its centre. In front of the portico is a granite cube with an eternal flame; the square is paved with black labradorite. The authors of the poetic epitaph are M.A. Dudin, S.S. Orlov, and other poets. A separate lot was allocated for common graves of soldiers fallen in the Afghanistan Campaign (a monument was installed in 1996, sculptor E.N. Rotanov), the Chechnya Campaign, and victims of several disasters, including the Mekhanik Tarasov freighter, the Kursk Submarine Cruiser (the memorial was opened in 2003), the Leningrad Hotel Fire, and others. Among those buried at the Seraphimovskoe Cemetery are artist P.N. Filonov; architects N.N. Belekhov, I.G. Langbard, and E.A. Levinson; ballet performers F.I. Balabina and Y.V. Solovyev; musicians I.A. Braudo and M.I. Vaiman; authors N.V. Krandievskaya-Tolstaya and P.N. Luknitsky; actors P.P. Kadochnikov and O.Y. Lebzak; and film director P.V. Shmakov. Reference: Андреев А.
