POLZUNOV RESEARCH AND PRODUCTION COMPANY for the research and design of mechanical and electrical equipment, also known as the Research and Production Company of the Central Boiler Turbine Institute, situated at 6/3 Atamanskaya Street. It was founded in 1927 as the Bureau for Thermal Testing under the Lenigrad Regional Research and Engineering Council. It joined the State Physics and Technology Laboratory in 1929, which was united with the State Physics and Technology Institute in its turn. Based on the heating engineering department of the institute, the All-Union Institute of Thermal and Hydraulic Power Equipment was founded in 1933. It was renamed as the Central Boiler Turbine Institute in 1935 and named after I. I. Polzunov in 1947. It received its current name in 1976 and became an open joint-stock company in 2001. The institute took part in developing and manufacturing power units for large heating and nuclear power plants, as well as high-power gas turbines, combined-cycle plants, and hydraulic turbines. A number of members of the academy worked at the institute in various years including M. V. Kirpichev, M. A. Mikheev, M. A. Styrikovich, I. N. Voznesensky, G. N. Kruzhilin, and S. S. Kutateladze, a commemorative plaque erected for the latter. The institute has been publishing its Proceedings since 1931.
