Categories / City Topography/Geographical Objects/Islands

EKATERINHOFSKY ISLAND washed by the Ekaterinhofka River, Tarakanovka River, and Bumazhny Canal. It is 40 hectares in area and 700 metres long and wide. The island formed after Bumazhny Canal was built in the second half of the 18th century. Tsarina Catherine I had her Ekaterinhof Summer Residence (hence the name) on the island from 1711. Liflyandskaya Street runs across the island. Aligned with the street is Molvinsky Bridge over the Tarakanovka and Bumazhny Bridge over Bumazhny Canal. In the east, the island is linked to Perekopskaya Street by Sutugin Bridge. In the island there is Ekaterinhof Park.
