Orlovsky Park (Strelna)

Categories / City Topography/Green Areas/Parks

ORLOVSKY PARK is a landscape park following English traditions. It was laid out in the first half of the 19th century (architect P. S. Sadovnikov) in the estate of Count A. F. Orlov in Strelna. The central house of the estate was destroyed during the Great Patriotic War 1941-45. The total area of the park is 125 hectares. There is Orlovsky Pond in the centre. It was formed from a mill-pond of the Strelka River. Beneath the mill-pond, which lies adjacent to Sankt-Petersburgsky Avenue, a canal leads to the port. The park was reconstructed after the war and the hardwoods were planted again. The remains of the ruined tower with a land ramp and Tufovy Bridge have survived on the territory of the park. Orlovsky Park is used as a recreational and entertainment zone.
