MATROSSKAYA SLOBODA (Sailors' Settlement), a settlement founded in the early 18th century on the right bank of the Okhta River, opposite the confluence of the Okhta River and Okkervil River. The region was mainly populated with retired sailors (hence the name). In the early 20th century, the territory was built up with industrial enterprises. In 1939-64, there was Matrosskaya Street. The name has vanished from the city vocabulary.
