SOSNOVAYA POLYANA (Pine Glade), a park to the south-east of St. Petersburg between Veteranov Avenue and Narodnogo Opolchenia Avenue. From the west, it is confined by the Sosnovka River. The park, occupying the territory of 58 hectares, was founded in 1968 and is set on a flat loamy terrace that used to be water-logged, but was reclaimed with drains. The territory is almost completely covered with forest. Pines used to predominate here (hence the name), however the present-day forest consists mainly of deciduous (birch, aspen), with some pines and bounteous mountain ash underbrush. The network of crushed rock roads has been laid and garden furniture has been placed.
