NOVY PORT (New Port), a locality in the northern part of Gutuevsky Island. The name appeared in the late 19th century after the relocation of the Morskoy Trade Port. There are numerous enterprises and organisations situated on the territory of Novy Port including the St. Petersburg Sea Port Open Joint-Stock Society, the University of Water Communication, the River Academy, the Engineering Shipbuilding Centre, the Leningrad Sea Scientific Research Project Institute, the House of Culture and a sailors' hotel. The residential areas were built up in the 1950-70s predominantly with houses for port employees and the Baltic Sea Steamship Company. Dvinskaya Street is the main thruway of Novy Port.
