KURORT, a locality north of the town of Sestroretsk, between the coast of the Gulf of Finland and the Malaya Sestra River, along the Saint Petersburg - Sestroretsk - Beloostrov railway line. The territory's Sestroretsky Kurort spa and mud cure resort was opened in 1898. The Kurort area contains picturesque spots, including Verkhny and Sredny Parks, as well as splendid sand beaches. Forests protect the territory from cold northern and north-eastern winds, whereas sea wind from the west moderates and humidifies the climate, providing relatively soft winters, and cool summers.
