SOCIETY OF ARCHITECTURAL ARTISTS (SAA), a society of architects. It was founded in 1903, by the initiative of architects, graduates and teachers of the Academy of Fine Arts (L.N. Benois, L.V. Rudnev, P.Y. Suzor, A.I. Tamanyan, I.A. Fomin, V.A. Shchuko, et al.). Since 1906, it published the SAA Annual (regularly until 1916; v. 12 - 1927; v. 13 - 1930; v. 14 - 1935; v. 15-16 - 1940), in 1914-17, the Architectural Artists Annual. SAA played an important role in the formation of Neo-Classical aesthetics in architecture and decorative art. With the participation of the SAA, the Museum of Old Petersburg was created (1907). In 1911, SAA organized an architectural exhibition in the halls of the Academy of Fine Arts; in post-revolutionary years, a number of architectural contests. It was in charge of designing residential quarters for workers. It was dissolved in the context of liquidation of all non-state creative organizations in 1932.
