BULDAKOV Gennady Nikanorovich (1924-1990, Leningrad), architect, National Architect of the USSR (1984), associate (1974), full member (1988) of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR. From 1941, he worked at the Kirov Factory in Leningrad. In 1942-45, served on the front line. Graduated from Leningrad Civil Engineering Institute (1951), taught there (1968-79, professor, from 1977). In 1960-67, worked at the Lenproject Institute, from 1963, was in charge of the workshop No 1 of Leningrad Scientific Research Institute Project; in 1971-78, was a head of the Main Architectural office, in 1971-86, Chief Architect of Leningrad, in 1971-87, directing the Municipal Construction Committee. He is one of the authors of the General Plan of Development of Leningrad of 1963-90, of the project of planning the Leningrad suburban zone (1960-84), of the General Plan of Development of Leningrad and Leningrad region for the period up to 2005; he was in charge of the development leaders and one of the authors of urban development projects of the Northwest (1974) and Southwest (1982) Districts, the experimental residential area projects in the Shuvalovo - Ozerki district, the forest-park protection zone; urban planning works on Vasilievsky Island, in Kronstadt, in the Rzhevka-Porohovye district, etc. He was one of the main proponents of the Green Belt of Glory (1965). Under the supervision of Buldakov, the general plans for Zelenogorsk (1965), and Sestroretsk (1972) cities were developed. He designed architectural plans for Grazhdansky Avenue (1976), Chernaya Rechka (1982) metro stations; of the reconstruction the Palace Square cobblestone pavement, Stachek Square, developing Smolny Cathedral esplanade (1977), etc. The author of over 80 scientific papers on issues of architecture and urban planning. From 1986, he was a head of the Leningrad chapter of the Union of Architects of the USSR. From 1986, he served at the editorial board of St. Petersburg, Petrograd, Leningrad Encyclopaedic Directory (Moscow, 1992). He was buried at Literatorskie mostki.
