RACHAU Karl Karlovich (1830 - 1880, St. Petersburg), architect, one of the prominent representatives of St. Petersburg Eclectism, master of interiors, accentuating small forms and an architectural scholar. Graduated from the Academy of Arts (1857), associate academy member (1864), professor (1870). He was involved in ornamenting of the Academy of Arts, in the 1870s rebuilt the house at the 30 Angliiskaya Embankment, mansion at the 8 Dvortsovaya Embankment; his most significant works include the mansion, residential house and production facilities of F. K. Saint-Galli plant on Ligovsky Avenue, buildings at the 9 Pushkinskaya Street, 15 Bolshoy Avenue of Vasilievsky Island et al. Author of the Vestibule and the Winter Garden of Anichkov Palace, architectural design of the Liteiny Bridge (1875-79) and lanterns beside the Alexander Column.
