Pososhkov I.T. (1652-1726), economist

POSOSHKOV Ivan Tikhonovich (1652-1726, St. Petersburg), economist and essayist, self-taught. He plied various trades, before becoming a merchant, then entrepreneur, bought lands, including two yards in St. Petersburg (1716). He was the author of manuscripts devoted to military, financial, clerical, and other questions. He was a supporter of Peter the Great"s reforms. He wrote his main work The Book About Poverty and Wealth in 1724 (published in 1842), which contained proposals and projects about various aspects of public life (he particularly argued for the development of industry and trade, proposed to increase the search for mineral deposits), and sold it to Peter the Great. After the death of Peter the Great in August 1725, he was imprisoned in St. Peter-and-Paul Fortress, where he died. Was buried on the Sampsonievskoye cemetery.
