St. Petersburgers Worldwide Club

ST. PETERSBURGERS WORLDWIDE CLUB (6 St. Isaac Square), a non-profit organisation, founded in 1991 with the purpose of reviving St. Petersburg as a spiritual, intellectual, scientific and cultural centre. Its first president was professor N.A. Tolstoy, today the society is headed by M.B. Piotrovsky. The members of the club are hereditary St. Petersburgers, St. Petersburg connoisseurs, descendants of eminent Russian families, as well as different St. Petersburg-based enterprises and organisations. The club developed the St. Petersburg Nights Programme (literary and artistic impromptu performances based on the topics related to St. Petersburg); its youth programming also includes city-wide conference entitled "Young People and the Future of St. Petersburg Culture", an annual competition "My St. Petersburg Family Tree" etc. Together with the Russian National Library and the Assembly of Nobility the club carries out a programme entitled "St. Petersburg High Society Salons" (dealing with the study of the history of St. Petersburg salons and lives of their participants). Three times a year Grand assemblies are held: at the opening of the new season of the club; on January 7, club foundation anniversary, and on May 27, St. Petersburg foundation anniversary. The club has published a collection entitled “St. Petersburg Nights” (1995).
