USPENSKY Lev Vasilievich (1900, St. Petersburg - 1978, Leningrad) writer. He graduated from the K. I. May Gymnasium and then from the Department of Philology at the Institute of Art History in Leningrad. The literary heritage of Uspensky consists of novels, stories, poems, translations of Ukrainian, Georgian, French and other poets. He is the author of scientific essays in the sphere of linguistics, archaeology and geography. Wrote books on Greek mythology, Leningrad history, in addition to critical reviews and journalist articles. He wrote Word about Words, You and Your Name, Why not Differently? (Etymological Dictionary for Schools), the Name of Your House (Essays on Toponymy), Beyond Language to Kiev (Riddles of Toponymy), By the Law of a Letter, Culture of Speech etc. He lived on 41 Krasnaya Street (Galernaya Street). He was buried on Bogoslovskoe cemetery.
