Krasnoputilovskaya Street

KRASNOPUTILOVSKAYA STREET, running from Komsomolskaya Square to Pobedy Square, passing through the Avtovo area, the former Vologodskaya-Yamskaya Settlement, the Alexandrovskaya Settlement, and Srednaya Rogatka. The street was built in the first half of the 18th century as a part of a road to Moscow and Novgorod; since the 1890s, it was divided by present-day Chervonogo Kazachestva Street into two sections, including Tsarskoselskaya Street (since 1918-23, Detskoselskaya Street; in 1923-56 Yakubenisa Street, named after a revolutionary worker) and Krasno-Kabatskaya Road (also called the Krasnokabatskoe Freeway, named after the Krasny Kabachok (Red Keg) Traktir; in 1941-64, known as the Yuzhnoe Freeway). The street's current name derives from the Krasny Putilovets Plant (today the Kirov Plant), whose first lot was laid in 1956, and second lot in 1964. The majority of its buildings date to the second half of the 20th century. In the 1960s, a development project was designed to take into account St. Petersburg's unique terrain features (architects V.A. Kamensky, A.V. Zhuk, N.Z. Matusevich). One architectural highlight on Krasnoputilovskaya Street includes the cylindrical Promstroiproekt Institute building (project leader, architect G.L. Badalin),as well as the Taxi-Blues Enterprise Building (formerly, the Sixth Fleet of Taxis, 1970s, architect Y.B. Golynkin).
