Categories / City Topography/Urban Network/Embankments

USHAKOVSKAYA EMBANKMENT, on the right bank of the Bolshaya Nevka River, from Chernaya Rechka River Embankment to Akademika Krylova Street. The embankment is an extension of Vyborgskaya Embankment. Starting from 1887, it was known as Stroganovskaya Embankment, to be renamed as Admirala Ushakova Embankment in 1952, in commemoration of F.F. Ushakov. From 1979 to 1989 it formed part of Vyborgskaya Embankment and now shares the common numeration of houses with the latter thoroughfare. The embankment used to stretch along the former summer residence of Count A.S. Stroganov (hence the original name), where now the Scientific Research Institute of Technology (house No. 65) together with the building of the Naval Academy (house No. 73, 1941, architect A. Vasilyev) is situated. In 1997-2000, Ushakovskaya overpass was built.
