NESTEROV Peter Nikolaevich (1887-1914), military aviator, founder of aerobatics. Graduated from the Officers School of Aeronautics (1912, memorial plaque - 7 Parkovaya Street). Developed the theoretical principles of aerobatics, was the first person to ever perform "the loop of death" (1913). At the beginning of WW I Nesterov was promoted to staff-captain, and appointed chief of the 11th Air Corps Squadron. On 26.8.1914 rammed an Austrian air plane and perished in the crash, becoming world's first aviator to have hit an enemy plane in an air-fight. A street in Gatchina and a lane in St. Petersburg were named after Nesterov.
