RYLEEV Kondraty Fedorovich (1795-1826, St. Petersburg), poet, decembrist, retired 2nd lieutenant. Came to St. Petersburg in 1801. Graduated from the First Cadet Corps (1814). He participated in the Foreign Campaigns of 1813-14. After resignation (1818) he moved to St. Petersburg, settled at the Sixteenth Line of Vasilievsky Island (the house has not been preserved), in 1823-24 he lived at the Twelfth Line of Vasilievsky Island (the house has not been preserved). He served as a representative of the nobility in the Petersburg Criminal Court (6 Admiralteisky Avenue), from spring of 1824 he had been Head of the Russian-American Company Board (72 Moika River Embankment; his last apartment was situated in the same house; there is a memorial plaque). From 1820 he was published in journals Blagonamerenny, Syn Otechestva, Nevsky Zritel, etc. He was a member of the Free Society for Lovers of Russian Literature (1821). In 1823-25 he published Polyarnaya Zvezda together with A.A. Bestuzhev. He was the master of the Flaming Star Freemason Lodge (1820-21). He was the member of the Northern Society (from autumn 1823), one of the leaders for the preparations of the uprising of 14 December 1825, and was one of the first to be arrested and put to the Alexis Ravelin of St. Peter-and-Paul Fortress. He was sentenced to death by the Supreme Criminal Court. On 13 July 1826 he was hanged at Kronverk Hill of St. Peter-and-Paul Fortress. Monuments were installed at the site of his and four other decembrists' execution and the places of their supposed burials at Dekabristov Island. A Street was called after Ryleev in 1923 (formerly Spasskaya).
