CENTRAL RING ROUTE, motor transport system, one of the main lines of St. Petersburg. The creation of Central Ring Route was to eliminate transit freight transport from the city. This idea was projected by the General Plans of Leningrad of 1966 and 1987, while the construction was started in the early 1960s. Central Ring Route connects centres of new residential areas, opening on to arterial roads in the north and the south - Primorskoe Freeway and Petergofskoe Freeway. By the early 2000s, separate parts were put into operation: in the south (connecting Moskovsky District, Frunzensky District and Nevsky District) - Leninsky Avenue - Slavy Avenue - Ivanovskaya Street - Volodarsky Bridge - Narodnaya Street (in the 1980s, Bolshevikov Avenue and Rossiisky Avenue were added to this); in the north (connecting Vyborgsky District and Primorsky District) - Nepokorennykh Avenue - 2nd Murinsky Avenue - Bogatyrsky Avenue. In the course of Rzhevka-Porokhovye region development, the part of Industrialny Avenue was built as a part of Central Ring Route. To unite separate sections into a highway, the construction of overpasses and road junctions with railway lines and integration of south and north parts to new arterial roads have been planned. For lack of the system of expressways in St. Petersburg, some parts of Central Ring Route have assumed freight traffic volume, releasing some of the pressure from the central city.
