LETOPIS (The Chronicle) monthly literary, scientific and political journal, founded and virtually edited by Maxim Gorky. The journal united authors and publicists opposing nationalism and WW I. It came out from December 1915 until December 1917 with a circulation of 10,000-12,000 issues, under the official editorship of A. F. Radzishevsky and with A. N. Tikhonov as the publisher. The editorial office was situated at 1 B. Monetnaya Street. The journal published works of Gorky, Аlexander Blok, V. Y. Bryusov, Ivan Bunin, Sergey Esenin, Vladimir Mayakovsky, М. М. Prishvin, E. Verhaeren, Jack London, Romain Rolland, Herbert Wells, Anatole France et al. Publicists B. V. Avilov, O. А. Ermansky, V. Kerzhentsev (P.M. Lebedev), L. B. Kamenev, Y. Larin (М. А. Lourie), M. S. Olminsky, N. N. Sukhanov (Gimmer) (predominantly adhering to social democratic principles, whose articles determined the position of the Letopis) were engaged as staff writers. K. A. Timiryazev headed the science section, V. A. Bazarov the philosophical section. The journal had been continually censored for an anti-war stance. In 1917 the Letopis harshly made a stand against the Bolsheviks, condemning the events of October 1917.
