SERAPION'S BROTHERS, a literary group from 1921 until 1926. It was named after the Tales of E. T. A. Hoffman. It separated from the Studio of Translators which existed at the publishing house World Literature. It united prose writers I. A. Gruzdev, M. M. Zoshchenko, Vs. V. Ivanov, V. A. Kaverin, L. N. Lunz, N. N. Nikitin, V. S. Posner, M. L. Slonimsky, K. A. Fedin, poets E. G. Polonsky, N. S. Tikhonov, N. K. Chukovsky. V. B. Shklovsky participated in the activity of the group. M. Gorky rendered important help to Serapion's Brothers: it was with his support and with the preface written by him that the only collective anthology Serapion's Brothers: The First Anthology was published in April 1923. The Serapion's Brothers opposed the anecdotal style with tense, sharp plots taken, as a rule, from contemporary events, prefering descriptions of life, landscapes and psychology, traditional in Russian literature. Meetings (Wednesdays) and literary soirees were held in the room of Slonimsky in the House of Arts, where at the beginning of the 1920s many participants of the group lived and at the House of Writers.
