RYLOV Arkady Alexandrovich (1870-1939, Leningrad) artist, honoured worker of arts of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (1935). He was trained at the Central School of Technical Drawing from 1888 to 1891 and at the Academy of Arts from 1894 to 1897 under A. I. Kuindzhi. He became a member of the Academy in 1915. He taught at the School of Drawing at the Artists Encouragement Fund from 1902 to 1918 and at the Academy of Arts from 1918 to 1929. He was a member of the World of Art, of the Kuindzhi Memorial Society (he was its head from 1925 to 1930, the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia, from 1925 to 1926. He executed romantic landscape paintings: Green Sound (1904), Fresh Wind (1918) and Forest River (1929), which are all on display in the State Russian Museum. In Blue Space, painted in 1918, is exhibited in the State Tretyakov Gallery. The major harmony of images by Rylov gave rise to official Soviet art theory ranking him among the founders of the Soviet landscape painting. He proved himself as a delicate animal painter in the illustrations for the children's journal Chizh (1936), for the books by V. V. Bianki Teremok, 1936 and Fairy Tales of the Hunter, 1937. He lived at 31 Fourth Line of Vasilievsky Island from 1915 to 19199, at 19 Zhelyabova Street (today Bolshaya Konyushennaya Street) from 1929 to 1939, where a memorial plaque is now located. He was buried at Literatorskie Mostki. He wrote: Memoirs. The fourth edition published in Leningrad, 1977.
