CHARUSHIN Evgeny Ivanovich (1901-1965, Leningrad), the graphic artist, writer, honorable art figure of the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic (1945). He studied at the Academy of Arts (1922-26) under the supervision of A. I. Savinov and A. A. Rylov. He was a graphic artist in the Leningrad Children's Department of the State Publishing House from 1927. He is the author of animalistic illustrations penetrated with warm humour, executed in the technique of free water-colour painting for the books by V. K. Arsenyev, V. V. Bianki, S. Y. Marshak, M. M. Prishvin, N. I. Sladkov, K. I. Chukovsky, and also for the books written by himself (The Wolfling and Others, 1931; Nikitka and His Friends, 1938; My First Zoology, units 1-3, 1942-44; Small Animals, 1949; About the Big and the Small, 1952; About Tomka, 1957). He made easel lithographs for children, devoted himself to painting on porcelain and small plastic for the Leningrad Porcelain Factory (see the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory). He lived on 50 Fontanka River Embankment (memorial plaque). He was buried on Bogoslovskoe cemetery. He is a father of artist-illustrator Nikita Charushin (1934-2000).
