KARSAVINA Tamara Platonovna (1885, St. Petersburg - 1978), ballet dancer. L. P. Karsavin's sister. A student of P. A. Gerdt, she graduated from the Petersburg Theatre School in 1902. Dancing in Mariinsky Theatre in 1902-18, she played key parts in M. I. Petipa's Giselle, Raymonda, Sleeping Beauty, L. I. Ivanov and Petipa's Swan Lake, and M. M. Fokine's Chopiniana and Carnival. She took part in S. P. Diaghilev's Russian Seasons Abroad from 1909 and Ballets Russes from 1913 to dance leading parts in I. F. Stravinsky's Firebird and Petrushka and other ballets choreographed by Fokine. She emigrated in 1918. Strongly attracted by modern art, she was an elegant ladylike dancer able to play parts of various genres, from tragedy to grotesque. She lived in Napravnik's house at 6 Kryukov Canal.

Works: Teatralnaya Street published in Leningrad in 1971.
