REVOLUTION MUSEUM is the first Russian museum of the history of the international revolutionary movement. The museum was inaugurated on 9 October, 1919, and opened for visitors on 11 January, 1920. The exhibition included the following sections: History of the Revolutionary Movement in Russia from the Decembrists to the Revolution of 1905-07; The February Revolution, the October Revolution, and the Civil War; Exile, Penal Servitude, and the International Aid Organisation for the Fighters of the Revolution; The Great French Revolution, the Paris Commune, the International, and the Development of Socialism. Before the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, the Revolution Museum was housed in the halls on the first floor of the Winter Palace. From 1957 on, the Revolution Museum was housed in the Mansion of Kschessinska and in the adjacent Mansion of V. E. Brant. It was called the Museum of the Great October Socialistic Revolution in 1957-91. The museum building was reconstructed in 1987 (2-4 Kuybysheva Street). The original state of a number of apartments was restored. The White Hall of the Mansion of Kschessinska is among the mansion's reconstructed apartments. The Lenin Memorial and the Historical Party Memorial were constructed. The museum has had several extensions and branches at various times, including the St. Peter-and-Paul Fortress and Schlisselburg Fortress; the Memorial Museum of the Vyborskaya Side Session of the Central Committee of the Russian Social-Democratic Workers' Party (Bolsheviks) on 16 (29 by the old calendar) October, 1917; and the F. E. Dzerzhinsky Memorial Museum-Study. The Revolution Museum was transformed into the Museum of Political History in 1991.
