TRIBUTS Vladimir Fillippovich (1900, St. Petersburg 1977), military commander, Admiral (1943), Doctor of History (1972). Graduated from Petrograd Military School for Medical Assistants (1917), was a medic assistant in the combined regiment of P.E. Dybenko, which attempted to stop the advancement of the German Army near Narva (February. 1918). Participated in the Civil War. Graduated from Frunze Naval School [1926, there is a memorial plaque on the facade (17 Leitenanta Schmidta Embankment)], and Naval Academy (1932). In 1926-29 and 1932-36 served on ships of the Baltic Fleet (the Paris Commune, Marat battleships, commanded the Yakov Sverdlov destroyer). From 1936, Commander, and from 1938, Commander of the General Staff for the Baltic Fleet. In 1939-47 - Commander of the Baltic Fleet. Under Tributs' command the fleet took part in the defence of Tallinn, the Moonzund Islands, Khanko Peninsula, in the Defence of Leningrad, the breakthrough (1943) and the lifting of the Blockade (1944), liberation of the Baltics, battles in East Prussia and East Pomerania. From 1947 held high command posts in the Navy. After retirement (1961) headed a Department of the All-Union Institute of Scientific and Technical Information. Author of memoirs and over 50 works on military history. In 1978 a new street in Krasnoselsky District of Leningrad was named after Tributs (Admirala Tributsa Street).
