FEDYUNINSKY Ivan Ivanovich (1900-1977), Soviet military commander, General (1955), Hero of the Soviet Union (1939). From 1919 served in the Red Army. Participated in the Civil War. Graduated from Vladivostok Infantry School (1924), Vystrel (Shot) Courses (a special course of training for officers) (1931), Officers Post-Graduate Courses of the General Staff Military Academy (1941), and Higher Academic Courses of the General Staff Military Academy (1948). During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45 commanded the 15th Rifle corps of the 5th Army, 32nd Army (August - September 1941), 42nd Army (September - October 1941); in October 1941, Commander of the Leningrad Front armies, afterwards of the 54th Army (October 1941- April 1942), and 5th Army (April - October 1942), second in command of the Volkhov Front Armies (October 1942 - May 1943), Bryansk Front Armies (May - July 1943); commander of the 11th Army (July - December 1943). From December 1943, commander of the 2nd Strike Army, which was transferred to the Oranienbaum bridgehead and distinguished itself during the lifting of the Leningrad Blockade (January 1944). In the post-war years held command posts in the Soviet Army. Author of memoirs. A street in the town of Lomonosov was named after Fedyuninsky.
