CLEANING OF LENINGRAD IN THE SPRING OF 1942. Measures taken in spring 1942 to clean the city of corpses and sewage that remained under the snow throughout the winter of 1941-42. It was carried out before the snow melted, in order to prevent the outbreak of epidemic diseases. It included work on behalf of the Secret Service and volunteer Sunday groups on 8 March and 15 March; and the mobilisation of all people that were not engaged in industrial production in the period of 27 March — 7 April. A mass clearing of streets, yards, the sewage system, wells and tram lines in the central districts was carried out during the cleaning of Leningrad.
