Categories / Architecture/Bridges

SHLISSELBURGSKY BRIDGE (formerly, Arkhangelogorodsky), across Obvodny Canal, on Obukhovskoy Oborony Avenue (formerly Shlisselburgsky Avenue, Arkhangelogorodsky Tract, hence the present-day name). The bridge was built in 1833 (engineer P.P. Bazen) as a single-span wooden arched bridge on granite-faced rubble abutments on the site of a wooden bridge, which used to be there in the 1820s. In 1928-29, it was replaced with a single-span reinforced concrete arched bridge with a through spandrel (engineers B.D. Vasilyev, O.E. Bugaeva). In 1997, the framework was refurbished and waterproofing undertaken. The bridge is 34.8 metres long and 24 metres wide.
