ST. PETERSBURG INTERNATIONAL COMMERCIAL BANK, a joint-stock commercial bank, opened in 1869. The volume of transactions was high enough for the bank to rank 2nd among Russian joint-stock banks by 1914. Since it was founded, the bank was mainly focused on Russian rail carriers through selling their securities and holding their shares. It also provided financial support to coal producers, gold mining companies, metallurgical works, and engineering plants, as well as to military industrial companies during the period of economiс growth of 1908-13. The bank participated in establishing a number of monopoly concerns, it was linked especially close to the military industrial group that included ship-building plants of South Russia and their suppliers. It had over 50 companies under its control in 1914 such as rail carriers, industrial enterprises, and insurance companies. The Bank maintained ties with foreign capital, especially with German capital. In its activities the bank enjoyed the support of the so-called friendly banks including the Russian Bank for Foreign Trade, the St. Petersburg Discount and Loan Bank, Volzhsko-Kamsky Bank, and Merchants' Bank of Moscow. The bank was located at 6 Angliiskaya Embankment before it moved to 58 Nevsky Prospect in 1898. It was nationalized after the October of 1917.
