REFERENCE AND STATISTICAL PUBLICATIONS of St. Petersburg, the Region and Eparchy. Special reference books on St. Petersburg and region were not yet in circulation in the 18th century, information and statistical data on St. Petersburg appeared in general descriptions of the capital in the late 18th century, for instance those authored by А. I. Bogdanov (1779), I. G. Georgi (1794). In the first half of the 19th century city reference books were an occasional occurrence and published by individuals, for example The St. Petersburg Address Book for 1809, S. I. Aler's indexes of residential houses and public institutions (1822, 1824), K. M. Nistrem's (1837, 1844) and N. I. Tsylov's (1849, 1850) address-calendars. Predominantly they contained lists of civil and military servants, priests, physicians, teachers etc. In the 1850s the provincial authorities issued two lists of the province's civil servants. The year 1861 saw the publication of record books, issued by the provincial and metropolitan statistical committee and the provincial commission (in 1861-1915 18 publications of this type were released). The most comprehensive versions included address-calendars (a list of the entire state and public provincial institutions and the personnel), a reference section, statistical review, as well as articles on the history, geography and statistical data of the province. In the 1870s statistical reviews of the St. Petersburg province were published regularly as printed supplements of the annual Imperial reports of the St. Petersburg governor (33 reviews were have been discovered for the years: 1879, 1881-83, 1885-1912, 1914). Statistical data relating to the city was published in special St. Petersburg City Hall reports, similar in content and purpose to the provincial reports (35 issues have been found: for the years 1873-79 and 1882-1909). From 1874 St. Petersburg City Hall and Police Department directories started to include lists of municipal institutions and officials. The publication of private reference books continued throughout the second half of the 19th century into the early 20th. A. S. Suvorin's (and later edited by his disciples) directory and reference book The Entire Petersburg, which appeared in 1894-1917 was one of them. Later the The Entire Petrograd and The Entire Leningrad, directory and reference book were modelled on the former (1922-35, 1939, 1940). The post-war period saw the publication of telephone directories of Leningrad, which included contact information of institutions and some of the enterprises. Beginning with the 1990s the annual telephone directory The Entire Petersburg also containing general reference information on the city, went into operation. Statistical data on Leningrad and the Leningrad Region (per annum, for five and ten year terms) were published with varying regularity in the 1930-80s in the miscellanies The Economy of Leningrad and the Leningrad Region, Leningrad and the Leningrad Region in Numbers. Historical-Statistical Information Concerning the St. Petersburg Eparchy (issues 1-10, 1869-1885) and Memorial Book of the St. Petersburg Eparchy (1899) provide the most comprehensive reference and statistical data on churches, parishes and parish clergy of pre-revolutionary St. Petersburg. In 1995 the St. Petersburg archdiocese publishing-house resumed the publication of eparchial record books (appeared issues for the years 1995 and 1998), in 2001 Reference Book of the St. Petersburg Eparchy came out.
