MAYKOV LITERARY AND ARTISTIC SALON of the 1830-50s was hosted by the Maykovs in Adam House on 51 Bolshaya Sadovaya Street. Masters of the salon were: academician of painting N. A. Maykov and writer E. P. Maykova, the parents of the three brothers who would later earn their own fame: A. N. Maykov, critic; V. N. Maykov academic; L. N. Maykov, poet. Constant visitors of the salon were V. G. Benediktov, I. A. Goncharov (teacher of Maykov's children), I. I. Panaev, economist A. P. Zablotsky-Desyatovsky. People of the whole Russian literary world of those years had visited the salon. "One might meet luminaries of literature of that time in the small but finely decorated living room of the Maykovs once a week, in the evening; many came with manuscripts and read works written by them" (D. V. Grigorovich). Aesthetic interests - literature, theatre, music, painting dominated the salon and manuscript journals were published.
