MINISTRY FOR INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE, central public institution administering state industry, as well as inspecting private industrial and commercial enterprises. The ministry was founded on 27 October 1905 on the basis of various subordinated departments, from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture and Public Estate, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Chief Department of Commercial Navigation and Ports. The Ministry was comprised of a Ministerial Council, a Ministerial Office, and a number of Departments, Councils and Committees. In St. Petersburg, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce was principally located at 7 Mytninskaya Embankment and in the building of the Ministry of Finance (8 Palace Square; the building accommodated the Departments of Industry and Commerce, the Educational Department, and the Chief Office of Manufacturing Affairs). After October 1917, the Ministry was abolished.
