TRUDOLYUBIVAYA PCHELA (Industrious Bee), a monthly literary journal. Appeared in 1759 printing 12 issues, and was published by its leading author A. P. Sumarokov. Alongside with the Prazdnoe Vremya, v Polzu Upotreblennoe it was the first privately owned journal in Russia. The journal was printed in the printing house of the Academy of Sciences. It published original and translated works. Among others it was А. O. Ablesimov, I. А. Dmitrievsky, G. V. Kozitsky, V. K. Trediakovsky who contributed to the publication. The Trudolyubivaya pchela exploited literary genres, inherited from the ancient and European traditions (Conversation in the Kingdom of the Dead and the satirical Dreams etc.) which gradually entered the scope of Russian satiric journalism. As for its political posture the journal gravitated towards the party of Grand Princess Ekaterina Alexeevna (future Empress Catherine II).
