MIKHAILA ARKHANGELA SELO, the historical name of a locality on the Nevskaya Zastava Territory. In the north it bordered on the settlement of Smolenskoe and in the south by the Farforovaya Colony. It emerged in the mid-18th century with the name derived from a church by same name (1860-62, architect B. F. Lorberg, pulled down in 1932) located at the corner of present day Krupskoy Street (former Moskovskaya Street) and Obukhovskoy Oborony Avenue (former Schlisselburgsky Road). Until the 1930s Mikhaila Arkhangela Selo was underdeveloped city outskirts with workers' settlements. In the course of the reconstruction that took place in the 1950-60s, new streets were laid out and the old ones levelled off, which gave way for new residential and industrial areas. The territory of the former settlement accommodates the Proletarsky Plant, Oktyabrsky Car Repair Works, the Trubostal Plant, the Vena Brewery and a number of other industrial enterprises.
