KAMENSKY Valentin Alexandrovich (1907-1975), architect, national architect of the USSR (1970). In 1931-39, he taught at Leningrad College of Civil Engineers following his graduation from the institute; from 1941, he taught at the Leningrad College of Urban Planning and Engineering (from 1959, he was a professor in the department of project engineering). He was in charge of the workshop, in 1951-71, worked as Chief Architect of Leningrad, and was head of the Board of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Leningrad Executive Committee, a member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Architects of the USSR. He is one of the authors and engineers of General Plans for the Development of Leningrad of 1942 and 1966 (see General plans of development of St. Petersburg - Leningrad). From 1944, he was in charge of reconstruction and development of Kirovsky District, Stachek Avenue (1951-55), Komsomolskaya Square (1955-62), Avtovo (1952-54) and Dachnoe (1960s) districts; he was one of the authors of the Oktyabrsky Concert Hall project (1967), Moskovskaya Square planning (1969-70), the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad on Pobedy Square (1971-75). A recipient of the Lenin Award (1976, posthumously). He lived at 5 Revolution (today Troitskaya) Square. He is buried at Literatorskie mostki.
