STATE UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS AND FINANCES, St. Petersburg (SPSUEF) (21 Sadovaya Street/ 30-32 Griboedova Canal Embankment) was founded in 1930 under the name of the Institute of Economics and Finances on the basis of the Financial and Credit Department of the Faculty of Economics of the Polytechnic Institute of the Department of the Engels Institute of National Economy. The Higher Pedagogical Institute of Finances and Economics of the People's Commissariat on Finances of the USSR was in 1954 the Leningrad Planning Institute. In 1963, it was given the name of N.A. Voznesensky. In 1991, it received the status of university and its present-day name. In 2002, the university had the faculties of law, general economics, commerce and marketing, labour economics, economic theory and politics, statistics, survey and economic analysis, credit and international economic relations, economics and management, and evening and preparatory faculties. The university consisted of the Higher Economic School, with centres for preparation, information technologies and scientific researches, the Scientific Research Institute of Law, foreign languages, technology, and informatics and economics institutes. It has departments in Murmansk, Novgorod, Pskov. The university is located in the building of the former Assignation Bank.
