Lang G. F., (1875 - 1948), physician

LANG Georgy Fedorovich (1875, St. Petersburg - 1948, Leningrad), physician, organiser of public welfare, Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1945), honourable worker of science (1934). He graduated from the Military Medical Academy (1899). In 1928-30 he was President of the Leningrad Medical Institute (now the Medical University). In1922 he was appointed a full-time head of the Faculty of Therapy. He was the founder of a scientific school in cardiology and haematology, and author of works on these subjects. Lang was buried in Serafimovskoe Cemetery. The Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR introduced the Lang Prize for works on heart vessel pathology. He was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1951. There is a bas-relief of Lang on the main wing of the Medical University, and a memorial plaque on the building of the Therapy Clinic (6 Leo Tolstoy Street).
