Fedorov S. P., (1869-1936), surgeon-urologist

FEDOROV Sergey Petrovich (1869-1936, Leningrad), surgeon-urologist, Doctor of Medicine (1895), court surgeon (1913). Fedorov graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Moscow University (1881). From 1903 he was professor and head of the chair of Hospital Surgery of the Military Medical Academy (named after Fedorov in 1933), at the same time in 1929-36 he was director of the Institute of Surgical Neuropathology (now the Institute of Neurosurgery). He founded the largest surgical school in the USSR. He was one of the founders and editor of the first Soviet surgical journal, New Surgical Archive (1921). He was buried in the Communist Section of the cemetery of Alexander Nevsky Lavra. There is a memorial plaque in his honour on the building of the Clinic of Hospital Surgery at the Military Medical Academy (3 Pirogovskaya Embankment).
