SOKOV VASILY ALEXANDROVICH (1912-44), draught-player, Russian draught master (1934), Leningrad champion (earned first of many titles in 1932), USSR champion (1938-41). Sokov lived in Leningrad since 1925. After graduating from the 8th form he worked at a factory. Since 1936 he resided at 32 Mokhovaya Street (memorial plaque). He was a participant of "live" draughts game held on the Palace Square (on 1.5.1934 with L.M. Ramm), and Leningrad chess champion 1943 (2nd place). During the Siege (1941-44) he was enlisted in the fire brigade. He died in a battle near Narva.
