NEKRASOVA STREET, known as Basseynaya Street before 1918, located between Liteyny Avenue and Grechesky Avenue. It was named after N. A. Nekrasov. It appeared in the first third of the 18th century leading to the pools that were opened to supply water to the fountains of the Summer Garden (hence the previous name translated as Basin Street). Grechesky (Nekrasovsky) Square was laid out in place of the basins in 1885. House 36/2 situated at the corner of Nekrasova Street and Liteyny Avenue was A. A. Kraevsky's apartment house that lodged Nekrasov in 1857-77 and accommodated the editors of Sovremennik and Otechestvennie Zapiski. Today, there is N. A. Nekrasov's Memorial Flat there. The image of the street formed mainly in the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Building 10 constructed by architect I. P. Volodikhin in 1912-13 housed P. P. Gaydeburov's theatre and exhibitions halls, as well as S. E. Radlov's Studio Theatre in 1919. It has been accommodating the Bolshoy Puppet Theatre since 1931. Building 14 by architect P. Y. Suzor accommodated bathhouses of the Tselebeev merchants. Liteyny Girls' Gymnasium was opened at number 15 in 1864 (today, school No. 194). Among students were N. K. Krupskaya and M. F. Andreeva. House 40 constructed by architect P. Y. Suzor in 1883-84 formerly was E. S. Egorov's apartment house. Among other apartment houses are houses 58-60 erected by architects E. F. Wirrich, A. I. Zazersky, A. F. Bubyr, and N. V. Vasilyev in 1912-17. Building 52 accommodates Maltsevsky (former Nekrasovsky) Market. Building 31 constructed by architect N. N. Nikolaev in 1893-95 used to house the Metochion of St. John the Baptist Convent of Leushino. Today, it accommodates the Regional Psychoneurologic Dispensary.
