PIMENOV Nikolay Stepanovich (1812 - 1864, St. Petersburg), sculptor, the son of S. S. Pimenov. In 1824-33, studied at the Academy of Arts under his father and under S. I. Galberg. In 1837-43, he was retained by the Academy of Arts to study in Italy, becoming a member of the academy a year later (1844) and beginning to teach there in 1856. A representative of late Classicism, he added Russian national and genre motifs to his sculptures such as Lad Playing for Dibs (plaster cast, 1836, the State Russian Museum; cast iron, 1837, in front of the Alexander Palace in Pushkin) and Boy Begging, (marble, 1842, the State Russian Museum). He also painted portraits (Architect K. I. Rossi, plaster cast, 1835; Nicholas I, marble, 1858; both at the State Russian Museum). He also produced bible scenes and monuments sculptures. Pimenov was buried at Smolenskoe Orthodox Cemetery, and in 1936 his remains were carried over to Necropolis of Artists.
