Categories / City Topography/Waterways and Currents/Rivers

EMELYANOVKA, a river to the south-west of St. Petersburg, in Avtovo. Its name has been known since 1772; it probably originates from the name of a landowner. The headwaters of the river used to be 1 kilometre westwards of the intersection of Marshala Zhukova Avenue and the road to Turukhtannye Islands. The Emelyanovka used to flow into the Neva Bay near the mouth of the Ekaterinhofka River within the limits of the Major Basin of the Forest Harbour. The river was partially filled in duringthe 1970s, with a small part of the channel and the mouth, located in the territory of Kirov Plant, preserved.
