KRASNENKAYA, a river in the south-west of St. Petersburg, flowing through Avtovo District and Yugo-Zapad District. The name of the river dates back to 1773, when it was known as Krasnaya Rechka. The left bank of the river accommodated the Krasny Kabachok Inn. The headwaters of the river are located 0.5 kilometre westwards of the intersection of Ligovsky Canal and Krasnoputilovskaya Street. The Krasnenkaya flows into the Neva Bay. The river is 5.4 kilometres long, with a width of about 15 metres at Stachek Avenue, the depth is about 1 metre. Upstream, both banks of the Krasnenkaya serve as a site for Krasnenkoe Cemetery. In the late 19th century, the channel of the river below the cemetery was straightened and turned into a canal running parallel to the road to the Coal Harbour. Two automobile overpasses were built in alignment with Stachek Avenue and Marshala Zhukova Avenue across the Krasnenkaya and a railway line going parallel the river going to the Coal Harbour of the Port; the river and the railway line are also crossed by a tramway overbridge built in the alignment of Kronshtadtskaya Street.
