VOZDUKHOPLAVATELNY PARK (Aerostatic Park), the historical name of the territory to the south-west of Volkovaya Village, near the railway station of the same name. Until the 1950s, it was an extensive waste land, where an artillery range was located from the early 19th century to the early 20th century. Artillery tests alternated with dry-fuel rocket launches (hence the name Raketnoe Field (rocket field) that can be found in some sources). Since 1885, a military aeronautical unit and a training (hence the name of the place) were located on this area. Until the beginning of the 20th century, balloons, dirigibles and their equipment were tested there. In 1910, Officers Aeronautical School was opened. In 1926, all military activities on the testing ground were stopped; from the late 1940s, the territory was developed with industrial and transport enterprises. In the first half of the 1960s, a housing estate was constructed at the beginning of Bukharestskaya Street. The names of the railway platform, Vozdukhoplavatelnaya Street, Parkovaya Street and Strelbishchenskaya Street are reminiscent of the history of the place.
