UDELNAYA, an area in the north part of St. Petersburg; in the north, it adjoins Ozerki, in the east - Sosnovka forest park, in the east - Kolomyagi, in the south-west - Udelny Park. In the early 18th century, the territory belonged to the treasury, in the late 18th century, it passed to Udelov Department (Department of Lots) (hence the name). In the early 19th century, to the east of present-day Udelnaya, there was a dairy farm (Russian "ferma"), Fermskoe Freeway was named after. In 1832-66, an agricultural school was functioning on the territory of Udelnaya. In 1832, Udelny Park was founded. With the construction of the railway line to Vyborg in 1870, Udelnaya turned into a dacha area. In the late 19th century, a number of medical establishments was set along Fermskoe Freeway: Charitable Mental Hospital (today Skvortsov-Stepanov Mental Hospital № 3), St. Panteleimon’s Hospital (today Psychoneurological Clinic № 2), Asylum (today Specialised School for Children and Teenagers with Deviant Behaviour). In the south part of Udelnaya, workshops of Y.M. Ayvaz (today Svetlana Plant) were founded in 1889. Until 1917, Udelnaya formed a part of suburban forest lot, in 1922; it was included within city limits. In the late 1940s - early 1950s, 2-3-storey standard houses (so-called German cottages) replaced wooden constructions; in the late 1950s, the architecture of Udelnaya' s main thoroughfare, Engels Avenue, was shaped. In the 1960s, the territory adjacent to Thorez Avenue was built up. In 1956, a cycle track was constructed on the hillsides of Poklonnaya Mountain; in 1979, the clinical hospital of the Academy of Sciences was opened; in 1982, Udelnaya metro station started functioning. The toponym was preserved in the names of Udelny Avenue, Udelny Park and the railway platform of the same name.
